THE HISTORY OF CHARLIES
My father Charlie, hence why we call the lake Charlies originally constructed the main Lake some twenty-eight years ago!

When the lake opened all those years ago it became probably the first proper day ticket water in the area. Nearly three decades later the lake has mature trees around the banks whilst the lake is lined with reeds and marginal lily beds. The lake has an island, which in the summer is surrounded, by reeds and lilies and the whole lake is indeed a living tribute to my father for having done an excellent job.
The original stocking of the lakes was carried out by my father and is an on going process. We tend to stock new carp into the main lake every four years and these new fish will all be home grown in our recently constructed stock pond. The last stocking saw ten twenty pound carp introduced into the lake. These fish were purchased from none other than Mark Simmons so keeping the fish stock truly English.
Along with the carp, several years ago the lake was stocked with thirteen catfish and one of these was caught recently at over sixty pounds so the growth rate of the cats is encouraging to say the least.
Over the past three years the lake has seen a swim building programme and all swims are now finished, so making the long stay angler feel more comfortable.
The fish in the main lake are all true English fish and we believe that one or two may have reached that magical figure of forty pounds but until they are caught this can not be confirmed. What is known however is that the water has produced carp from the original stockings in excess of thirty pounds and many different twenties. I believe that my late father has left a legacy that will be enjoyed by anglers of all ages and abilities for many years to come!
